Just weeks before new EU repair rules for smartphones were set to take effect, we learned that the European Commission has proposed a “corrective legislative act” that would weaken your right to repair.
The “corrective act” would effectively scrap the requirement for user-replaceable displays — the very parts most likely to break. This would mean consumers could buy spare screens, but not be allowed to install them themselves. It’s an industry-friendly decision that maintains the status quo and flies in the face of sustainability and common sense.
We’ve already submitted official feedback and are pushing hard to keep provisions on user-replaceable displays — but we need your help to keep going. The outcome will be decided between now and mid-June.
