This regulation has the potential to slow the avalanche of electronic waste that has been caused by hard to repair devices. However, the overall climate ambition of the measures is inconsistent with European climate targets and manufacturers will still be able to put barriers to repairs.
On Friday the 30th of September, the Right to Repair Campaign organized the policy session “European Right to Repair still loading ⌛️”, which launched Fixfest. We focused on how policy developments in Europe can make repair easier, cheaper and more accessible for everyone.
2022 promised to be a big year for repair.
While we wait for draft regulation on repairability of smartphones and tablets – due any day now, let’s take a look at all key legislative processes currently progressing at EU-level.
